Agnipath Scheme: Join the Indian Air Force & Build a Bright Future!

The Indian Air Force has released details of the new HR management scheme for the Armed Forces, including eligibility criteria, age limits, educational qualifications, and more. According to the IAF document, all Indians between the ages of 17.5 and 21 are eligible for the scheme, provided they meet specific medical conditions and wear a distinctive insignia during training. Recruits, known as “Agniveers,” will be entitled to 30 days of annual leave and sick leave as per medical advice. After four years, they may be absorbed into formal service at the government’s discretion. However, they will not be able to leave the service at their own request, except in exceptional cases. Recruits will receive a monthly salary of Rs. 30,000 with yearly increments, allowances, and access to military health services. The Agnipath scheme, announced by the Central government, aims to streamline the armed forces and reduce the defense pension bill. Defense Minister stated that the goal is to make the profile of the Armed Forces more youthful, in line with the wider Indian population. However, the announcement has sparked protests across the country, with demonstrators in states like Punjab and Kerala expressing concerns about retirement benefits. In response, the Centre has announced incentives, including 10% reservation in vacancies for Agnipath retirees.
