ASI Seeks Extension for Gyanvapi Mosque Survey Report

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has requested an extension of 15 days from a Varanasi court to submit a report on the court-ordered scientific survey of the Gyanvapi mosque complex, to determine if the mosque was built over a pre-existing Hindu temple.

The management of the Gyanvapi mosque complex is overseen by the Anjuman Intezamia Masjid committee.

Special Counsel Rajesh Mishra, representing the UP government, informed the court that ASI’s application for additional time to submit the survey report has been accepted. The court is expected to make a decision on the application on Saturday.

According to Mishra, ASI has completed a scientific investigation/survey at the site. However, the preparation of the report using ground penetrating radar (GPR) is still in progress, hence the need for more time to prepare a detailed survey report for submission.

The court granted ASI an additional 15 days on November 2 to complete and submit its report. Similar extensions were granted on October 5 and September 8.
