Revolutionizing Sports in India: Overcoming Federations’ Control and Promoting Equal Opportunities

Sports in India faces challenges due to federations that operate independently from government control, as highlighted by BJP member Nishikant Dubey in Lok Sabha. The ongoing discussion on promoting sports in India has been a key focus in the Parliament.

Dubey emphasized the issue of federations not being under government control, stating that wealthy states can support sports more easily than poorer states like Jharkhand. He questioned the lack of support for sportspersons from federations.

He also praised the government for providing extensive assistance to sports, with direct involvement from the Prime Minister. Dubey mentioned the government’s support for athletes at international competitions, regardless of their success, as a testament to their commitment to sports.

Danish Ali of BSP raised concerns about nepotism in sports federations, calling for equal opportunities for youths from all backgrounds to improve India’s performance at international events.

Satypal Singh highlighted the lack of sports facilities in certain areas, like Baghpat, despite producing talented shooters. He advocated for the establishment of a National Sports Institute in Baghpat.

Vijay Kumar of JD(U) emphasized the importance of creating sports training facilities in villages to enhance accessibility for youths.

Jagdambika Pal, a BJP member from UP, noted the significant allocation of funds for sports this year, highlighting the government’s focus on supporting athletes and preparing for future Olympics.

Goddeti Madhavi of YSRCP called for the provision of sports kits to tribal students to promote sports in those communities. She also suggested integrating sports into the school curriculum and promoting indigenous sports in each state.

Gopal Shetty of BJP stressed the importance of promoting cricket to generate revenue that can be used to support other sports.
